“Challenges make you discover things about yourself that you never really knew”

Identity through Discovery and Expression
Fireside Chat:
Reframing your profile identity through discovery and expression supported through YouTube exploration: “Disability Expression”. Where were you born?
Do you currently live in the same place? Do you have siblings? What is your ethnicity and cultural heritage or nationality? Each camper has a unique set of characteristics, traits and features that form their core or base.
A noun is defined as a person, place or thing. A pronoun is a proper noun and is capitalized. Adjectives are words “chosen” to describe or modify a noun. Your base or the core of who you are is often characterized by nouns or specified with pronouns and described or modified by adjectives.
Example One:
I was born on __________(birthdate) in _______, ________ (city, state). I have __ (#) brothers and ___ (#) sisters. I am _________ (the youngest, the oldest, in the middle, an only child). I currently live with my __________ (family, mother, father, parents, grandparents, etc) in a _________(house, apartment, condominium). I have lived there ___(#) years. My _______ (family or I) identify as _________(ethnicity).
If you are an item in a box, what are the labels that you would apply to the box that describe you as content. Are the labels that are applied to your box that do not adequately describe you? What are the ingredients of your box? Imagine you are a box of cereal. What information would you put on your box? Think about a cereal box, what information goes on each side of the box.
How do the labels and images on the box tell the “story” of what is in the box? How would you tell your story? What images would you use to best describe your content? You are more that your nouns or your ingredients? How do you frame your story?
Do you have a disability? Does your disability have a name or a label? What is your ethnicity? Do you know more than one language?
Example 2:
Each participant will be assisted in crafting their own personal Disability Disclosure Worksheet / Statement
“My experience as a _______with a __________(insert disability label) and____________ (pick another aspect of your identity such as gender identification, cultural background, religion, ethnicity, food preferences, birth order, career objective, etc.). My experience with __________has taught me to __________ and I am able to __________. I am more productive when_____________ and often a _____________(accommodation) will increase my ____________(skill or ability).”
Introduction of the Camp NetWorx Discovery Cube
Campers are introduced to the Camp NetWorx! My Cube project. The box sides are described and defined for campers and then each was to begin to identify and share potential images that they will choose for their unique MyCube. The campers were asked to utilize the slack communications tool to share their images among their camp peers.
Cabin Workshop:
Campers return to assigned Cabin Workshops (Zoom Rooms). Each camper has a unique set of characteristics, traits and features that form the core or base or
ingredients of who they are and where they come from. Identification and branding of one’s ingredients express a descriptive story of who they are. What are your ingredients and flavors? What value do you offer a consumer? How do you tell the story of one’s ingredients in a way that communicates your story and the experience of one’s content? How does the disability label reveal your experience?
